Ayelet Waldman’s essay “Darling, I Like You That Way,” defends her not-so-secret wish that at least one of her two sons would turn out gay — or at least would have some of the qualities that she values so much in her gay friends. This essay came as a result of an essay she wrote for Salon.com in 2005

Waldman’s essay is featured in Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys: True Tales of Love, Lust and Friendship Between Straight Women and Gay Men, a collection of essays edited by Melissa de la Cruz and Tom Dolby.
