Khalid plays the Bay Area May 5-7 (Courtesy of Khalid)

Khalid’s song “Young Dumb & Broke” is a sardonic twist on the media’s obsession with millennials as “young, dumb and broke.” And as my co-host Gabe Meline says, it’s sure to be this year’s high school graduation anthem. Khalid has a knack for a great hook, and he’s sold out Bill Graham’s Civic Auditorium, with a second show added. So, Gabe notes, Khalid is, maybe, not so broke.

I was impressed with the haunting organ line that underlays the song, and with the video (351 million views). It’s just a lovely tribute to the promise of youth, featuring real high school kids, not models. The kids, as Gabe said, are all right. Khalid plays Bill Graham’s Civic Auditorium in San Francisco May 5 and 6, and the ARC Pavilion in Davis on May 7. Details here.
