Sean Dorsey's 'Boys in Trouble' gets its world premiere at Z Space April 19-21 (Lydia Daniller/Sean Dorsey Dance)

The dances Sean Dorsey makes are always political in some way — as well as funny and moving. Dorsey is a transgender and queer choreographer with a brand new piece called Boys in Trouble, about how toxic masculinity is poisoning the world, and about how to be a better man from a trans and queer perspective. Dorsey crafted the dance over a two-year period, after traveling the U.S. hosting community forums on masculinity.

The issue is certainly up to the minute, what with the harasser-in-chief in the White House and new attacks on LGBTQ rights. And we should mention that Dorsey’s dances, for an all-male corps, are often just beautiful. Boys in Trouble runs April 19-21 at Z Space in San Francisco before heading off on a 20-city tour.
