Note: This video has male nudity.

You might not think to look twice at Bob Webb on the street, but for nearly 50 years artists have been paying to look at him — naked.

Webb began modeling in his home state of Oklahoma in the late 1960s. Coming from a theater background, he’s always loved what he calls the “performative aspect” of nude modeling. Though he is acutely aware that as a society we are more comfortable with female nudity, he is hopeful that will change, and recalls with a chuckle the early years of his career when male models were required to wear G-strings.

Art schools and creative industry professionals, including Academy of Art University and Pixar Animation Studios, now routinely hire the 67-year-old to pose fully nude. Watch Webb in action at a recent City College of San Francisco session, and find out what’s kept him modeling for generations of artists in the Bay Area.
