One hundred years ago—just nine years after earthquake and fire brought San Francisco to her knees–the city threw open the gates to an audacious world’s fair. Amazing displays of art and architecture, industry and commerce, culture and entertainment wowed the 19 million visitors who attended the Panama–Pacific International Exposition.
