He serves as a veteran teacher leader for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachingquality.org\/nmi\/sfbay\" target=\"_blank\">Bay Area New Millennium Initiative<\/a> and works with the California Teachers Association\u2019s Institute for Teaching. You can read more of Dave\u2019s thoughts on teaching and educational reform at <a href=\"http:\/\/transformed.teachingquality.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">TransformED<\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.kqed.org\/americangraduate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/52\/2012\/04\/Dave1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-517\" title=\"Dave1\" src=\"http:\/\/ww2.kqed.org\/americangraduate\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/52\/2012\/04\/Dave1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a>In the last session of the OEA\/OUSD <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibabuzz.com\/education\/2012\/04\/19\/last-chance-to-attend-saturdays-ousd-teacher-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">teacher conference<\/a> last Saturday, I sat in a session about a new teacher-evaluation system piloted by two Oakland schools. Like my own school, these two are under interdict from the state and federal education authorities to dramatically remodel themselves because their test scores remain unsatisfactory.<\/p>\n<p>The schools applied for, and received, a federal grant to help them with their remodeling. One of the conditions for the money is to revamp their teacher evaluation system so that student achievement data is included.
