This Week in Northern California debuted on KQED 9 in February 1990 with journalist Ginger Casey as host. In 1993, award-winning broadcast journalist Belva Davis became the host. In 2009, the program was revamped (with a new website). Anchored in the news of the week and the Bay Area community, the program now follows a magazine format and has broadened its scope to include the arts, culture, science, history, food and classic clips from the KQED archives.
Belva Davis retired from the host chair on November 9, 2012. The program continues with a different guest host each week and will unveil a new host and a new format in April 2013.
