Popular news quiz program will record three shows at San Francisco’s Nourse Theater in front of sold-out crowds.

The San Francisco episodes will air on KQED 88.5 FM on Saturdays, July 19, 26, and August 2 at 11am.

KQED is proud to host Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, the irreverent and oddly informative news quiz program from NPR, for their three-week residence in San Francisco. The Peabody Award–winning program will record three episodes at San Francisco’s Nourse Theater in front of sold-out crowds on Thursdays, July 17, 24 and 31 at 7:30pm. Tickets for the live recordings sold out in six hours after being released, but a very limited number of press tickets are available for the recording events.

The weekly hour-long news quiz offers a fast-paced, irreverent look at the week’s news. Host Peter Sagal leads panelists (comedians, authors and journalists to be announced at a later date) and callers through a series of games designed to quiz them on the week’s news and showcase their wits. Callers compete for the most coveted prize in public radio: a home answering machine greeting custom-recorded by “Scorekeeper Emeritus” Carl Kasell. Listeners can get in on the action by calling 888-WAIT-WAIT. The San Francisco episodes will air on KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM on Saturday, July 19, 26 and August 2 at 11am. For more information, please visit KQED.org.

Now in its 16th year, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! has an audience of more than 3.8 million listeners weekly and surpasses two million podcast downloads each month. The program tours the country on a regular basis, but this is the first time that the staff has done an extended residency outside their hometown of Chicago. Host Peter Sagal said: “As you can imagine, the Bay Area is a pretty good place for us. It’s fertile ground for public radio listeners.” He added: “Usually the longest we spend in a city is two nights. I love San Francisco. It’s hard for me to think of a place I’d rather spend three weeks in the summer.”

KQED is giving fans many fun opportunities to get involved with the program’s Bay Area stay via social media. Fans can win a pair of tickets to the sold-out Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! recording on July 24 by taking part in a photo caption contest, submit suggestions for potential San Francisco "Not My Job" guests and add their favorite local eats to KQED’s “Guide to the Best Sandwiches in the Bay Area,” inspired by the news-quiz show’s “Sandwich Monday” feature. KQED will also provide behind-the-scenes glimpse from the Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! recordings themselves on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
