Join KQED, Community Cinema, Spectrum Queer Media, Gay-Straight Alliance Network and the African American Art and Culture Complex for a special free screening of The New Black from Independent Lens. Centered on the historic fight to win marriage equality in Maryland, the award-winning documentary tells the story of how the African American community is grappling with gay rights issues in light of the recent gay marriage movement. KQED and Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC) celebrate Pride Month and our Local heroes with a family-friendly event. CELEBRATING PRIDE WITH STORIES AND MUSIC
Join KQED and StoryCorps for a night of storytelling, music and celebration. StoryCorps founder Davey Isay will be on hand to launch StoryCorps OutLoud, a multiyear initiative dedicated to recording and preserving LGBTQ stories across American. OutLoud honors the stories of those who lived before 1969 Stonewall uprisings, celebrates the lives of LGBTQ youth and amplifies the voices of those most often excluded from the historical record.
