“There is an appetite for visually compelling food stories online and Bay Area Bites has strategically increased the use of multimedia in blog posts and social media to satisfy this hunger,” said Wendy Goodfriend, the founding editor for Bay Area Bites and a senior interactive producer for kqed.org.  “The flexibility of the new design supports more sophisticated photo displays and video features. And the new structure will provide easier access to the wealth of evergreen content that resides within BAB.” KQED Interactive Executive Director Colleen Wilson added: “Bay Area Bites has always been on the forefront for KQED’s numerous local blogs that cover the rich array of life in the Bay Area. This new look will allow us to ensure BAB looks dynamite on any device from smartphones and tablets to desktops and beyond.”

Launched in 2005, Bay Area Bites was KQED’s first aggregate blog featuring community writers, including culinary and media professionals, food writers, filmmakers and cookbook editors. It offers a wide-range of food-related content from unique recipes (Balsamic roasted Brussels sprouts with pine nuts and parmesan and vegan almond milk ice cream are at the most popular recipes on the blog right now.) to restaurant reviews; from coverage of popular food events to incisive pieces exploring food policy.
