How many times have you been minding your own business, listening to pop radio, reminiscing about the year 1998, when a truly gluttonous fantasy popped into your brain: *NSYNC was a pretty good boy band and all, but how much better would they have been if there had been 300 of them?!
Alright, so maybe this event isn't meeting a specific need -- it's more like the kind of thing you never really knew you wanted until your weird aunt sends it to you as a birthday gift; say, one of those weird tree-face garden accent things from SkyMall.
In any event: It's Pride weekend, and it goes without saying that the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus is so much better than any lawn ornament could ever hope to be. Especially when they put together a performance that consists solely of boy band songs, all sung harmoniously, 300 men at a time.
"Heartthrobs: Biggest Boy Band Ever" will see the renowned chorus singing hits from "The Beach Boys to The Beatles, from the Bee Gees to Boyz II Men," accompanied by Well-Strung, "the Singing String Quartet." There are three performances at the Nourse Theater this weekend: Friday, June 24 at 8pm and Saturday, June 25 at 2:30 and 8pm. Tickets range from $20 to $60.
This is sillier fare than we often get from the SFGMC, which in recent weeks gave us this chill-inducing tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting.
