For most of us, the dance style known as voguing seems like something best left to the pros -- the best-known of whom is probably Madonna, who in 1990 brought the style (previously the province of queer, underground New York City nightclubs) to the mainstream.
But in San Francisco, we're also lucky enough to have Jocquese Whitfield, a master whose approach is a little more in line with the dance's street roots -- and when it comes to teaching what he knows, he's certainly much more accessible than Madge. (He teaches a freakishly popular class called VogueTone at Dance Mission in SF, for one.)
KQED's Art School recently caught up with Whitfield, aka Sir JoQ, to learn about the fundamentals of voguing. And lucky for us, they caught it all on video: Consider this Vogue 101.
