Earlier this week, we gave you reasons why San Jose is cooler than you think. Something not mentioned in that post is the super cool, super haunted Winchester Mystery House, which Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, once lived. The legend goes that she was paranoid about the ghosts of people killed by Winchester rifles and kept building onto her residence as a way to trick the spirits. The result: a 160-room maze full of doors and staircases that lead nowhere.
Tourists have flocked to visit the sprawling house for years and now they'll get a chance to get boozy and sleepover too. According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, a permit was approved by the San Jose planning department that will allow for a restaurant, bar and overnight guests. No word yet on when this will go into effect, but whenever it does, I expect to see you there, Ouija board in hand.
