Asilomar State Park on the Monterey Peninsula is celebrating its 100th anniversary -- and the park's history is a rich one. When this forested bluff was donated to the YWCA a century ago, America was industrializing rapidly. The Bay Area Y wanted a West Coast camp where women could learn both work and leadership skills. In this natural setting, the YWCA empowered women and promoted racial equality. President John F. Kennedy, anthropologist Margaret Mead and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. all spoke here.
