Right now, backpackers are crossing into Canada after five months of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. These "thru-hikers" started the trail in Mexico, and have traversed 2,650 miles. It can be grueling for hikers. Their toenails fall off, and their feet can swell whole shoe sizes. They say the only thing they talk about more than their feet is food. For the ongoing series "California Foodways," we visit a makeshift cafe on the Sonora Pass section of the trail, where hikers indulge in the first fresh fruit and sweet treats they've had in weeks.
