Music is on the agenda this weekend in Oakland, where thousands of indie music fans will gather for the annual Burger Bugaloo. But the garage rock festival was conceived 400 miles away -- in a drab Orange County strip mall. That may seem an unlikely headquarters for a fast rising cultural tastemaker. But as the California Report’s Los Angeles bureau chief Steven Cuevas reports, it fits right into the vision of the ambitious founders of Burger Records.
