Californians Could Repeal Practice Sending Some Minors to Adult Court

In the year 2000, Californians passed a proposition allowing a district attorney to decide whether to try a juvenile as an adult. The practice is called direct file, and it was designed to combat a perceived surge in youth crime. Now, direct file is up for a vote this November as part of Proposition 57.
