Some of them happen to serve in the state Legislature, with members born in Iran, Mexico, Vietnam, South Korea and Hong Kong. As part of a series on immigrant lawmakers, we profile California's first Indian-American member of the Assembly, Ash Kalra, who represents part of Silicon Valley.
