The Asian Law Caucus, which has been active in organizing against the deportation of City College of San Francisco student Steve Li, says that Li is back in San Francisco today and making the rounds to thank those who have worked on his behalf. He is planning to hold a press conference tomorrow at noon.

After spending a couple of months being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for being in the country illegally, Li was freed this weekend after Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a private bill to delay his deportation until after Congress considers the DREAM Act.

ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice told the San Francisco Chronicle that “Mr. Li’s removal has been stayed, and the stay will remain in effect for 75 days after the end of the Congress.”

The DREAM Act, which Harry Reid has said he would call to a vote by year’s end, would allow certain deportable students to obtain conditional permanent residency, good for six years.

Meanwhile, at Fresno State, where last week student body president Pedro Ramirez was outed as an undocumented immigrant, a pro-Dream Act rally was held on Friday. Here’s an AP video of the rally featuring Ramirez speaking, as well as someone calling for him to step down as president.
