There's an interesting wrinkle to today's lunar eclipse, explained in this Washington Post blog entry:

It will be the longest lunar eclipse in more than a decade and the ash and sulfur gas floating in the atmosphere from the Chilean volcano may cause the moon to glow blood red.

Sounds portentous.

The 100-minute event will be the longest eclipse since 2000. It won't be visible here, but that, my friends, is why we have the Internet.
