Thousands of firefighters are continuing their battle to rein in three major blazes that ignited late last week or over the weekend, including two near Santa Barbara and one near Oroville in Butte County.
At the same time, Cal Fire says state and federal agencies are confronting about a dozen smaller or less critical fires across the state.

Wall Fire: Blaze broke out Friday afternoon in the hills east of Oroville (and south of Lake Oroville). The blaze had burned 5,600 acres (9 square miles) by Monday morning, destroyed 17 structures and forced the evacuation of about 4,000 people. The fire was 35 percent contained.

Whittier Fire: This blaze broke out Saturday near Lake Cachuma, near Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Mountains northwest of Santa Barbara. As of Monday, the Whittier Fire had burned 10,823 acres (17 square miles) and was 5 percent contained. At least 20 structures burned, but officials didn't say if they were homes.
The fire broke out near a campsite and sent hundreds of campers scrambling, including about 90 children and 50 staff members at the Circle V Ranch who had to take shelter until they could be safely evacuated.

Alamo Fire: Burning in the hills west of the city of Santa Maria on the San Luis Obispo-Santa Barbara County line. As of Monday morning, Cal Fire says the fire had consumed 28,926 acres (45 square miles, a little smaller than the area of San Francisco) and is 15 percent contained.
