A reported attempted kidnapping by the driver of a Lyft car last night in San Francisco was a misunderstanding between the hard-of-hearing driver and his passenger, according to police, who say they're no longer investigating the incident.

The driver picked up the woman on Corbett Avenue near Mars Street at around 11:20 p.m. Police Department spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said the woman jumped out of the car, a silver Nissan Quest, when the driver headed in the opposite direction of the one she'd requested. The woman suffered a broken ankle.

Esparza said Friday afternoon that officers were able to reach the driver via TTY telephone -- a special telephone for the deaf.

"He never heard her say anything," Esparza said.

The non-kidnapping was one of two incidents associated with ride-service firms that took place in the city overnight.

In the second overnight incident, a man carjacked an Uber driver in the city's Glen Park neighborhood early Friday morning.

Police said the Uber driver was picking up a passenger on Monterey Boulevard and Diamond Street around 3:20 a.m. when a man opened the driver door and ordered the driver and a passenger out of the white Toyota Prius. The suspect, described only as a black male in his 20s, drove off, police said.
