Firefighters have contained a six-alarm vegetation fire in Pacifica this morning.
The fire began as a 5-acre blaze at Fassler Avenue near Highway 1 at about 3:30 a.m., according to news reports, and grew to six alarms about 6 a.m.
The fire was fully contained about 7:30 a.m. and residents will be allowed to return to their homes around 8:30 a.m., North County Fire Authority Inspector Clyde Preston said. The San Francisco Chronicle reported 80-90 homes were evacuated.
About 40 residents took shelter at an evacuation center at the Pacifica Community Center at 540 Crespi Drive, Preston said.
He said fire crews will be in the area all day to trim vegetation and to monitor potential blazes.
