Keith Jackson, owner of a prominent San Francisco-based consulting firm, is among those named in the FBI's affidavit. He donated $6,800 to state Sen. Leland Yee's secretary of state campaign in 2013, as shown below in a list of top contributors. In the affidavit, an FBI agent states that Jackson solicited him for campaign contributions in return for political favors. These donations were well above the legal limit of $500 per individual. At one point Jackson accepted a $10,000 cash donation from the undercover agent, the affidavit states.
Jackson has also been accused by the FBI for being involved in a murder-for-hire scheme and a gun- and drug-trafficking conspiracy.
This activity went on as both Jackson and Yee worked to retire Yee's mayoral campaign debt from the 2012 election, and also as Yee began raising money for the Secretary of State race. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Jackson faces the following charges after being arrested today:
- Conspiracy to Traffic in Firearms Without a License and to Illegally Import Firearms, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § § 371, 922(a)(1), and (l)
- Trafficking in Firearms Without a License, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(1)
- Scheme to Defraud Citizens of Honest Services, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § § 1343, 1346, 2 (six counts)
- Use of an Interstate Commerce Facility for the Commission of a Murder-for-Hire, in violation of 1958
- Conspiracy to Distribute Narcotics, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846
