July 4 Transit and Parking Around the Bay Area

With a BART strike that could stretch into the July 4 holiday, you just may want to start thinking ahead about how to get to all those barbecues and fireworks shows.

Below are transit and parking enforcement plans for major agencies in the Bay Area.

Transit:

BART - BART is updating their website with the latest news about ongoing labor negotiations. If the BART strike continues into the holiday follow 511.org for commute options between the East Bay and San Francisco.

SFMTA - The annual Independence Day celebration will start at 2 p.m. along the waterfront near the Municipal Pier and Pier 39. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Here is a list of street and area closures related to these events.

A Sunday service schedule will be in effect for Muni, but the agency is also offering additional service on certain routes, including pre-event bus shuttles to Pier 39 and Van Ness Avenue and Chestnut.

The America's Cup Challenger Series, the Louis Vuitton Cup, also opens Thursday. Muni will provide bus shuttles from Pier 27 to the Marina Green between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The E-Embarcadero streetcar line will operate between the Fisherman’s Wharf and the 4th and King Caltrain Station from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

AC Transit - AC Transit management is in labor negotiations with its transit union, so there is a chance of a walkout. Assuming AC Transit is running, the system will follow a Sunday schedule. Check the site for updates about individual bus lines.

Parking Enforcement:

San Francisco - The SFMTA indicates that parking meters, posted time-limit zones and seven-day street sweeping will be enforced citywide on the holiday. Commuter tow away, residential parking permits and Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping will not be enforced.

Oakland - The City of Oakland website indicates that July 4 is a parking meter holiday. Street sweeping in Oakland will not happen July 4.

San Jose - San Jose is a meter holiday, but street sweeping will still be enforced.
