Lighter than an SUV and covered with more than 12,000 solar cells, Solar Impulse, the world's first solar plane that can fly day and night without recharging, launched from Moffett Field this morning. The $150 million project initiated by co-pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg will test the limits of solar aviation and be a proving ground for a planned trip around the world in 2015. People gathered to celebrate Dutch Queen's Day near Golden Gate Park's Murphy Windmill on Saturday, April 27. Saturday's local party featured music, food, dancing, a beer garden and a traditional market of secondhand goods. Queen's Day probably won't be repeated for a while; Queen Beatrix abdicated the throne just three days after the celebration in favor of her son, Willem-Alexander.
