SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A new report by the state prison system's inspector general reveals numerous examples of extreme misconduct by prison guards and state parole agents.
The cases included a parole agent who is accused of soliciting one of his parolees to kill another and a prison guard who partied with inmates as they were drinking a form of booze the inmates manufactured themselves.
Another guard stripped off his duty weapons to duke it out with an inmate, then encouraged other guards to cover up the fight. And numerous corrections department employees are having sex with inmates, including juveniles.
The incidents are among 278 cases of alleged employee misconduct detailed in the latest report by the independent oversight office. Neither the corrections department nor the union representing prison guards immediately commented Wednesday.
