Interested in visiting a winter wonderland during your long weekend? Drive about three hours east of the Bay Area and you might find a dusting of snow on quaint Sierra towns. Snow also has been spotted on some of the taller peaks in the Bay Area, including Mount Hamilton.

A cold snap late this week resulted in Tweets with photos of flurries in communities like Sonora. In the Lake Tahoe area, meanwhile, some ski resorts are grooming several inches of snow in preparation for opening the slopes.

Here are some photos posted on social media of snow in Northern California.
