The controversy around suspended San Francisco Giants slugger Melky Cabrera took a turn for the weird over the weekend, when the New York Daily News reported that Cabrera created a fake website to try and avoid getting punished for testosterone use. The online ruse didn’t work: Cabrera has been suspended for 50 games and he has apologized to fans.

Needless to say, Melkygate continues to generate chatter online, including comments from a few enterprising web folks who are offering to build fake sites for other players. The latest Cabrera-related Tweets have included some pretty good one-liners:

On Friday we posted an open letter from Giants fan and KQED Forum web producer Amanda Stupi, who told the team that “our season is tainted, and we fans are screwed. And I don’t know if we can ever go back to the way things were.”
