How do you celebrate a NASCAR victory in Sonoma County?

Garik Kimov

Clint Bowyer, who held off Tony Stewart to win Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway, wanted wine according to Santa Rosa Press Democrat columnist Bob Padecky.

“Why are we out here in Wine Country,” said the winner of the Toyota/Save Mart 350, “drinking water?”

Bowyer also beat Vallejo-born Jeff Gordon...who has won the race 5 times, KQED's Stephanie Martin reports. Bowyer was flushed with victory when Martin caught up to him.

"Let me tell you, I just looked up and Jeff Gordon is sitting there on the wall, who won this race many times, he's a champion of this sport," he said. "And I just beat him. You know I'm telling you.  I passed him.  I passed Jeff Gordon.  You have no idea -- to have this dirt boy from Kansas in victory lane at this real course is big, trust me."
