Yosemite Falls Webcam Activated; Falls Videos

As reported in the Chronicle, Yosemite Conservancy today activated a webcam of Yosemite Falls, at 2,425 feet the highest waterfall in North America, and the fifth highest in the world.

This is the park's fourth webcam. The others are trained on El Capitan, Half Dome, and an area that includes Tenaya Peak and Clouds Rest.

"The webcams provide windows into Yosemite for people to plan a visit and to be inspired about the need to preserve and protect one of the world's most unique places," said Mike Tollefson, president of Yosemite Conservancy, in a press release. "This technology makes the park's incredible scenery accessible to anyone, anywhere and at any time. What could be better than starting your day by viewing Yosemite Falls?"

And check out this footage of the falls in winter, when "a big conical mound of ice and snow develops...it can grow to be hundreds of feet tall." Then...it comes crashing down.
