Here's the explanation of what you just saw from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma:

More than 70 cars convened at Infineon Raceway on Tuesday to break the Guinness World Records® Record for Most Cars Performing Donuts Simultaneously.

Seventy-five cars performed simultaneous donuts for more than 15 seconds, breaking the previous world record of 57 cars, which was set in Queensland, Australia, in 2010. Evidence of the claim was documented and will be sent to Guinness World Records for final verification.

The cars were piloted by drifters from across Northern California who participate in the raceway’s weekly Sonoma Drift powered by NOS program. The program, which is in its second consecutive year, provides drifters a safe, legal and controlled environment in which to hone their skills.

“That was a blast. With all the smoke and all the cars doing donuts simultaneously; I’ve never seen anything as big as that,” said professional drifter and San Francisco native Calvin Wan. “That was just a great time.”

More than 200 fans were on hand to witness the record breaking attempt, which took place in the raceway’s main paddock under cloudy skies. All drifters and spectators were admitted free into the raceway.
