Update 3:52 p.m. Here’s video of the opening of today’s presser by new GM Reggie McKenzie.

The Raiders have the full 48-minute press conference on video here.

Update 2:45 p.m. First questions to new Raiders’ GM Reggie McKenzie were, naturally, about the Hue Jackson firing. Was it a gut feeling? Performance-based? What went into the decision to let him go?

“I want my guy,” McKenzie said. “Everything is based on performance. But I go with my gut…. [Raiders co-owner] Mark [Davis] told me the general manager would have the power to hire and fire the coach.”

Later, this question: At 8-8, with your star QB and running back going down, what would have been an acceptable result in order for Jackson to be retained?

Mark: Davis: “That had nothing to do with the decision. It’s more so Reggie could put his stamp on this organization.”

From the Bay Area News Group:

The Raiders new regime will not include coach Hue Jackson, the coach confirmed to the Bay Area News Group on Tuesday.

Jackson was fired less than four hours before new general manager Reggie McKenzie was to be introduced at a press conference at the club facility, with McKenzie informing Jackson he wanted to hire a new head coach.

And this from CSN Bay Area:

Comcast SportsNet’s Henry Wofford talked with Hue Jackson, who said he is shocked by what happened. Jackson told Wofford that he was called into Reggie McKenzie’s office and was told that the team no longer needs his services.

When Jackson asked why, McKenzie responded that he was starting from scratch and bringing in his own guys. Jackson also asked if he was being let go because of his coaching or his relationship with players. McKenzie would not provide details, but said it has nothing to do with his reportedly bad relationship with the players.

Said Jackson to Wofford: “Come on Henry, you know I did everything possible to keep my job. McKenzie said I was not in his plans for the future and he basically wants to gut this place.”

Raiders’ GM Reggie McKenzie is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2 p.m. You can watch live at the Raiders’ web site.

Jackson finished his first year as head coach with an 8-8 record. The team finished up lousy, losing four of the last five and marring what at at one point appeared to be a promising season.
