    Officials put residents of Occupy Oakland on notice Thursday night that a tent city outside City Hall could no longer continue. A letter posted on the city's web site at 8 p.m. expresses concerns about a wide range of public health and security issues surrounding the 10-day old camp in Frank Ogawa Plaza. No moves have been made by police or other officials to dismantle the camp since the notice went up.

    San Jose police arrested eight Occupy Wall Street protesters and cited one man in a wheelchair early Friday for violating a city ordinance that forbids camping out on city property. Sgt. Jason Dwyer said the arrests came about 3 a.m. near Fourth and Santa Clara streets at San Jose City Hall Plaza, where protesters have been complaining about corporate greed for more than a month as part of a nationwide movement.

  • State's cap and trade program gets final approval (SF Chronicle)

    California's plan to cap greenhouse gas emissions and put a price on carbon is set to take effect on Jan. 1 after the Air Resources Board voted Thursday to make final adjustments in the regulation.

  • PG&E denies it put 'junked' gas pipe in the ground (SF Chronicle)

    Pacific Gas and Electric Co. bristled Thursday at state regulators' suggestion that the company installed "junked" pipe in its gas-transmission system in the 1940s and '50s, saying its use of properly reconditioned pipe at the time was perfectly safe and challenging officials to prove otherwise.

    Soon, you'll be able to charge your electric car at some Walgreens stores in the Bay Area. Installation of electric vehicle charging stations begins next week at six stores in San Francisco, San Mateo and San Jose, with dozens more to come.
