The NTSB has released its final, 140-page report on the San Bruno disaster (pdf) of a year ago.

Here is the Executive Summary, Investigation Synopsis, and 28 Findings, which were released last month at a scathing hearing on the causes of the accident.

That capped an agency investigation that pinned the blame squarely on organizational incompetence by PG&E, with lax oversight by the California Public Utilities Commission and the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration as contributing factors.

Here's PG&E's statement today:

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today issued the following statement from President Chris Johns following the release of the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) final report on the San Bruno accident investigation:

PG&E is grateful for the NTSB’s thorough investigation of the San Bruno pipeline accident and fully embraces the Board’s recommendations for improving the operations and management of the company’s natural gas system. We are implementing those recommendations as part of a larger effort, both immediate and long-term, to promote safer pipeline operations.

We are committed to continuing to learn from the San Bruno accident and to sharing those learnings across the natural gas industry so that a tragedy of this magnitude never happens again. We are deeply sorry that our pipeline was the cause of the accident, and we remain committed to supporting the City of San Bruno and its residents as the healing and rebuilding process continues. PG&E will continue making fundamental changes to its operations to assure the safety of the public, our customers and our employees always comes first.

The NTSB has also created a nearly 21-minute video on its investigation...
