Update 11:15 a.m. Hillary Clinton was the keynote speaker at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Women and the Economy Summit today. Here’s an FAQ about the conference from the organization, including goals and issues being discussed.

From KQED News’s Peter Jon Shuler:

Clinton declared a new age of participation for women — which she says will spur economic growth worldwide. Speaking at the conference on women and the economy in San Francisco, Clinton told participants that they are making a historic step by adopting a declaration committed to improving women’s access to capital and markets — and narrowing the gender gap in both the public and private sectors.

“It’s fitting that this declaration would be adopted here in San Francisco because it was just one mile from here in the Herbst Theater where the United Nations Charter was signed 66 years ago,” Clinton said.

Citing a report from Goldman Sachs, Clinton said that narrowing the gender gap could lead to a significant overall rise in global economies — and per capita incomes.

The Daily Beast has a report, video clip, and transcript excerpts from the speech.

Yesterday, Mina Kim spoke to Ann Lehman, policy director for the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women about efforts that the city has been making toward gender equality in the workplace.

She’s speaking at the Westin St. Francis hotel. She gave a quick shout-out to Ed Lee and Jean Quan, both in attendance, in her opening. One thing she probably won’t be talking about here.
