A two-alarm fire early this morning damaged a clothing store and cafe that share a building in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, city fire spokesperson Mindy Talmadge said.

Firefighters responded at 4:59 a.m. and found a blaze burning at True Clothing and the People’s Cafe, located on Haight St., near Masonic Avenue.

Both buildings appear to have been largely destroyed.

“The crews got in there pretty quickly,” Talmadge said. “It was very visible when they arrived at the scene.”

The flames were mostly in the rear of True Clothing and its attic, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 5:43 a.m., she said.

After firefighters broke windows and cut holes in the roof of True Clothing to vent smoke, the fire spread next door to People's Cafe, which shares an attic with True Clothing.

”It’s typical San Francisco construction where we’re always chasing fires into the attic space,” Deputy Fire Chief Tom Siragusa told KCBS.

No one was injured, but officials told KCBS that there are tens of thousands of dollars worth of damages to the buildings and inventory.

Other stores on the street show signs of smoke damage as well.
