Update 11:30 a.m. KQED's Peter Jon Shuler attended a police press conference today about the arrest of a suspect in the Case of the Stolen Picasso (Caught on Video). Some details about the arrestee:

  • The suspect's name is Mark Lugo, 30, from Hoboken, New Jersey.
  • No prior serious arrests; one arrest in a minor alcohol-related incident.
  • Acting alone, as far as police know.
  • He was arrested in Napa, where he was visiting friends, who aren't suspected of complicity in the crime. The artwork was recovered there, without the frame.

In what was not a masterpiece of thievery, yesterday a man walked out of the Weinstein Gallery on Union Square with a Picasso drawing under his arm . Problem was that he was recorded on a security camera of Lefty O'Doul's, the restaurant next door. (Watch the video here.) The man fled in a cab, which the police later tracked down.
