Oakland Police Release Video in Sex-Assault Case

Oakland police have released a cellphone video they say a sexual assault victim took of her attacker earlier this week. Police said the attack occurred Tuesday morning in West Oakland when a man forced his way into the victim's residence. She reportedly used her cellphone to record the assailant as he prepared to leave the house with an armful of stolen items.

The Oakland Police Department is looking for a man who forced his way into a residence and sexually assaulted a woman in the 900 block of Apgar St around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The victim, a 28 year old woman, was home alone when she was confronted by a man in her home. He sexually assaulted her and then took electronic items before fleeing the house. The man is described as an African-American in his early 40’s, approximately 5’9 tall, 160 pounds, with a bald head and medium complexion. He was wearing a blue and white t-shirt and jeans at the time of the assault. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Oakland Police Special Victim’s Unit Investigators have taken over this investigation and have made the preliminary determination that this crime does not appear connected to any previously reported sexual assaults. This incident is a high priority to the Oakland Police Department and anyone with information is asked to call the Youth and Family Services Division at 510-637-0298.
