The California High-Speed Rail board is now meeting, opening with a public-comment period. Here's the agenda.

Yesterday the State Senate approved a bill overhauling the governing authority of the high-speed rail initiative. The bill, SB 517 (which you can read here), would end the terms of current board members in January, give the governor and legislature authority to make new appointments, and put new restrictions on agency employees in terms of potential conflicts of interest. The California High Speed Rail Blog, which supports the project in a big way, attacks the proposed bill, which now moves to the Assembly, in this post.

Earlier this month, the state's Legislative Analyst Office issued a report slamming the project and casting doubt on the state's ability to secure funding for completion of it. (Read that report here.)
