It’s only Tuesday but it’s already been a roller coaster of a week for California’s high-speed rail project. Yesterday, the U.S Department of Transportation announced it would give California $300 million dollars for the project, after Florida rejected that funding.

Today, the Legislative Analyst Office released a report that’s highly critical of the project. The independent analyst calls for major changes to California's plan, including delaying the fast-tracked project and taking control away from the independent board that now oversees that project and shifting that control to the Department of Transportation. The report says a number of problems – from lack of funding to a lack of basic information – threaten the project’s success.

Sacramento Bureau Chief John Myers is working his way though the report right now and will have updates on our air this afternoon.
