Jess Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson winery, has died at age 81. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, which calls him the richest man in Sonoma County, has an extensive obituary and other coverage:

  • Ron Malone

I knew Jess Jackson as a lawyer. Mr Jackson and I tried a condemnation case together in 1979 and I have been an admirer of him ever since. Jess was a masterful courtroom tactician, smooth as silk, honest and straightforward , and a genuinely nice guy to work with. Although our association was brief, he had a significant impact on my career as a trial lawyer, and I will be forever thankful for his guidance and friendship.

It has been fun to watch his stellar career since those days, and as a fellow horseman, I appreciate what he has done for the industry.

Godspeed Mr. Jackson. You will be missed.

    Godspeed, Mr. Jackson
