Statement from Mayoral Candidate Jean Quan on Release of Initial Ranked Choice Voting Results Today

“Oakland’s first foray into Ranked Choice Voting has been a cliff hanger—our lead of 51.09: 48.91 show that our grassroots efforts throughout the City had tremendous impact and even though it’s not final, it’s looking pretty good for old fashioned grass roots organizing and honest campaigning. There are still about 10,000 absentee ballots and some provisional ballots to be counted.

“This has been an amazing race. The fact that we have a slight lead despite Perata spending millions on this race is a tremendous accomplishment. Our massive grass roots effort--led by our dedicated and extremely talented team of almost 1000 volunteers--is already making a difference in Oakland.

“As I stated at my Kick –Off Rally last March, this campaign was not just about Jean Quan running for Mayor, it was about building a grassroots movement for Oakland epitomized by our campaign slogan---Taking Back Oakland, Block by Block. And we can be proud of what we have accomplished. We have formed new networks in every District that I hope will continue to flourish.

“Your love for Oakland, unwavering commitment, unique talents and skills and tremendous generosity continue to inspire me every day.
