O, San Jose (Earthquakes)!

The headline needs a little clarification if you've never been to a San Jose Earthquakes game. Wait—you want to know who the Quakes are? Glad you asked: They're the Bay Area's very own franchise in Major League Soccer, they play their home games in Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University. And to get back to the headline, "O, San Jose" is one of the popular chants you'll hear from the team's die-hard supporters, the 1906 Ultras and The Casbah.

The Quakes are the Bay Area's other major-league playoff team. The Giants, the World Series champions from San Francisco, have gotten virtually all the ink and almost all the love, but the Earthquakes are still on their own quest for a league championship of their own.

The latest installment: an explosive 3-1 road victory tonight over the New York Red Bulls. That gave the Quakes, who lost 1-0 in Santa Clara last Saturday, a 3-2 aggregate victory in the two-game playoff series. Next up for San Jose: a semifinal match with the winner of the series between the Columbus Crew and Colorado Rapids.
