Newsom's "Fear the Beard" Comment Aimed at Peskin?

At the Giants' ceremony a few minutes ago, Gavin Newsom just said something like, "The city's going to need a new mayor soon, and I only have one thing to say: Fear the beard."

KQED's Scott Shafer has interpreted the comment as a shot at Aaron Peskin, the former President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and a frequent Newsom antagonist. (And vice-versa). Peskin has been mentioned as a possible contender to succeed Newsom should he win the Lieutenant Governorship, though one recent profile asserts his influence has waned.
