Gavin Newsom's office took issue with Scott Shafer's perhaps Freudian analysis of the Mayor's "Fear the beard" comment at the Giants' ceremony today. From an email sent to Scott by Newsom press secretary Tony Winnicker:

Honestly? Do you really think the inside baseball of City Hall and Peskin would deserve a mention in the Mayor's remarks about the World Series? Wow. I can assure you that no one was further from Mayor Newsom's mind when he said "Fear the Beard" than Aaron Peskin. He was suggesting Brian Wilson should be considered for Mayor, which the Mayor and Wilson joked about in City Hall before everyone went out on stage.
