- The Palo Alto City Council unanimously voted against the California High Speed Rail Authority's proposed University Avenue station and also voted, according to the San Jose Mercury News, to "tell the California High-Speed Rail Authority -- as well as other regional, state and federal agencies -- it does not want Palo Alto to be considered further for a station along the San Francisco-to-Los Angeles route." According to the rail authority, a mid-Peninsula station would be 67,000 square feet and would handle about 15,600 people daily. The station would need at least 1,000 parking spots next to it and 2,000 more within 3 miles of the bullet train stop. The rail authority identified the Caltrain depot on University Avenue as the potential location for Palo Alto.
- PG&E said Monday that it discovered 38 leaks in its network of Bay Area gas lines. The utility also said it may need to replace 300 manual gas valves. From the San Jose Mercury News:
Map of leaks in large transmission lines, from the Bay Citizen:Four of the leaks -- one in Hollister, two in Napa and another in Gridley, north of Sacramento -- were in large transmission lines, similar to the one that erupted in San Bruno on Sept. 9. Two of the four were in PG&E facilities. The others were in smaller pipes, many feeding gas to individual customers. The company, which expects to complete checking its entire gas system by Dec. 15, said all of the leaks have been fixed.

- The Giants have set their pitching rotation for the World Series. Tim Lincecum will go up against Cliff Lee in Game 1 and Matt Cain will face C.J. Wilson in Game 2. Jonathan Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner will pitch Games 3 and 4. The first two contests are at AT&T Park, starting at 4:57 p.m. The Series will be televised on Fox.
- The Bay Citizen reports that Chevron has filed a lawsuit against Contra Costa County in an attempt to recover 2004 - 2006 property taxes. A memo from Richmond City Council member Tom Butt says this could leave the city on the hook for as much as $26 million.
- Former president Jimmy Carter will be at Kepler's bookstore in Menlo Park tonight for a "meet-and-greet" book signing. You can purchase tickets online for the 7 p.m. event; line starts forming at 6 p.m.
- Michelle Obama, along with Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden's wife Jill, was at the Fairmount Hotel in San Francisco for a fundraiser yesterday.
