Veterans Day honors active and retired U.S. military members. Numerous events are planned throughout the Bay Area to celebrate the occasion. Here are a few:

Veterans Day Parades

San Francisco

Where: North Beach area
When: November 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Details: San Francisco's parade will start from North Point St. via The Embarcadero to Aquatic Park. The streets being used as parade routes will be shut down during the event and cross traffic may not be allowed. San Jose

Where:SAP Center and vicinity
When: November 11, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Details: The parade will commence after a ceremony adjacent to the Tech Museum from 11 a.m. The parade will start from the SAP Center and ends near the San Jose Convention Center. Details here.

Walnut Creek

Where:Hofmann Theatre, Lesher Center for the Arts
When: November 11, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Details: Walnut Creek's mayor will lead the ceremony and the local concert band will be present. Details are here.

Petaluma

Where: Walnut Park and vicinity
When:November 11, 1 p.m.~
Details: Petaluma's Veterans Day Parade event is scheduled to include music, prayers and helicopter flyover.

Free Entrance to U.S. National Parks

The National Park Service will provide free admission to anyone visiting a National Park Service site on November 11, 2018. Click here for details.

Free meals or drinks for U.S. military members

Active and former U.S. military members will receive free meals at many restaurants in the Bay Area including California Pizza Kitchen to Chipotle to Starbucks, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Transit

BART, AC Transit, Caltrain, Muni and SamTrans will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Monday, November 12. Parking meters and seven-day street sweeping will be enforced in San Francisco.
