Chevron and the city of Richmond settled for $5 million to end a lawsuit over a 2012 refinery fire that caused 15,000 nearby residents to seek medical treatment.
Amid rising oil prices, Chevron reported first quarter profits of over $3.6 billion.
At the rate the oil giant realized profits in the first three months of 2018, it made enough money to pay the $5 million settlement in just under three hours.
