The state capitol is abuzz over a report that aired Wednesday night on Al Jazeera America. The story cites a sealed federal affidavit, claiming State Senator Ronald Calderon allegedly accepted about $88,000 in bribes from an undercover FBI agent posing as a movie studio executive lobbying for legislation to expand tax credits, part of a wide-ranging sting operation.
In the report, which aired on the cable TV network's show "America Tonight," former FBI special agent James Wedick says, "He not only tried to affect the legislation, but did affect the legislation, and he accepted money in so doing."
No charges have been filed against Calderon.

The affidavit was filed in support of a widely noted search warrant served in June on Calderon's Capitol office. An attorney for Calderon asked to comment by the LA Times said, "The only illegal act I see is committed either by somebody who released a sealed affidavit or somebody who claims they got a sealed affidavit. Releasing a sealed affidavit is a federal crime."
